Our Beginning

Floodjay Productions was born from a passion for technology and a desire to bring professional-grade audio, video, and lighting solutions to every event, big or small. Founded in Modesto, California, by Matt Robertson, we started with a vision to fill a gap in the market for comprehensive, customer-focused A/V services. Over the years, we have grown in size, expanded our inventory, and continually refined our expertise, all while staying true to our core mission of delivering unforgettable moments through sound, light, and visual effects.

How We Got Our Name

The name “Floodjay” reflects our founder’s love for stage lighting and our early roots in event entertainment. We chose “flood” from the floodlight, symbolizing the bright, all-encompassing solutions we provide for every event. The “jay” comes from the Greek root of the word “deejay,” paying homage to our beginnings as a wedding and event DJ. Together, “Floodjay” represents our unique blend of lighting expertise and deep connection to live events, allowing us to create extraordinary experiences tailored to our clients’ needs.

Our Founder

Matt Robertson

With almost two decades of experience in theatre, lighting design, and live sound, Matt Robertson brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to every project. Known for his creative problem-solving, keen eye for safety, and strong team-oriented approach, Matt ensures your project is a success from start to finish. His journey into tech theatre began in middle school, where he was the go-to “tech guy” for fixing equipment issues. His passion for technical work blossomed after joining the theatre department and managing his first production, “School House Rock, Jr., The Musical.” From there, Matt’s interest in stage lighting took off, leading him to expand his skills in high school, junior college, and through volunteering at his local church.

Matt further honed his expertise while working on cruise ships for two years, handling advanced lighting and pyrotechnics systems, and serving as an assistant technical director at a historic vaudeville-style theatre. In January 2020, Matt officially founded Floodjay Productions, dedicating himself full-time to the business by September 2022. When you work with Matt, you’re partnering with someone who knows how to get the job done right, no matter what it takes.

Technician

Mark Brady

Involved in live production since 2009, Mark is an experienced technician with experience in lighting, video, broadcast, AVL integrations, and a primary focus in live audio for music. He has worked on a plethora of shows and jobs of various types, including concerts, music recitals, theatrical shows, major and minor league sports games, corporate events, instalations, and more. He was trained early on to approach his work with a servant’s heart, and thus passionately cares about giving his best to every job. no matter how big or small. Your vision, goals, and your audience are what matter most to him. Beginning his service in the AVL industry early on in the church as a volunteer in the youth tech team, Mark went on to find a passion for music and theatre producion at The Master’s University where he served as an audio technician for campus events and chapels, musical performances and studio recording, and a stint as audio lead for the schools theatre troupe, the highlight of his time at college. From there, Mark went on to become the audio lead at a local club and bar which hosted live bands every weekend, and eventualy made his way to several audio production companies. Some of his most noteable highlights are working as a guest monitor engineer for the band Smash Mouth, and serving as a radio booth engineer and master control operator for the Athletics baseball club of Major League Baseball during their time in Sacramento.

Mark’s passion is for the people he works with and works for. One of his favorite aspects of working in production is forming friendships with the amazing talent he gets to work with. Across the nearly one hundred and fifty different bands he has met at events, he has continued to work personally with many of them, travelling across the state and beyond to serve them. He loves taking care of the hard work so that his talent can simply focus soley on what they do best. In his own words, “I work so that you don’t have to”. The greatest accomplishment he can achieve with his work on any given show regardless if his work is noticed or not, is inspiring someone in the crowd to go home, pick up an instrument, and learn to play. Currently, Mark works with several different production companies, contracts with many local venues and bands, and continues to work and serve at his home church where his journey started. There is soul, passion, and emotion to feel in your production, and Mark is determined to be the vessel by wich your talent can deliver that sensation to your audience.
